One of the many cool aspects of DCI is learning from peers with different interests and expertise. During skill presentations, which are entirely student-led, students can teach peers about subjects such as photography, graphic design, editing, platforms and tools, professionalism, and real-world skills. Skill presentations are also a good way to practice public speaking, an often daunting task. A few of the useful functions of Snapseed include basic editing functions (cropping, details, shadows, highlights, curves, etc), perspective adjustment, brush spot-correcting, lens blur, healing, and effects and presets. Here is Kathy Liu’s comprehensive skill presentation on the free design platform Canva. A few of the topics that are covered include navigation and how to create designs, templates and hacks, and useful elements and tools.
Here is PART 1 of Joyce Pang’s skill presentation, where she talks about graphic design, going over vocabulary, tips and tricks, and other information. In PART 2 of her presentation, she talks about Notion, a powerful (and free!) organizational software that she uses to organize her life! HERE is Grace Lee’s skill presentation about Green Screens in the iMovie app, which is a useful tool for quick phone editing during events.
